Background on the "foreign" language

Gwayahkooshkawin is the Ojibwe word for "balance".  Throughout the next four years of medical school and beyond, the aim to maintain a balanced lifestyle will be a constant practice for me.  I believe that keeping this central to my journey will not only help me maintain my sanity, it will provide perspective and equip me with some very valuable tools and insights on how to work with my future patients.

The blog website address name: mashkikiiwininiikwe, is another Ojibwe word, meaning "doctor (female)".  The use of these specific words from the language of my ancestors was a way for me to connect my deep past with my future.
